Events

UQMS in collaboration with the Ashintosh Foundation runs a range of social and community events throughout the year with the proceedings going to the charitable works of the foundation. Each event has a unique feel and helps broaden out the social calendar of UQMS students. These events provide casual atmospheres to increase the strength of the student group, as well as raising funds for the projects of their fellow students and future colleagues.

Coffeehouse

The Ashintosh Foundation Coffeehouses are a series of acoustic music evenings that involve medical student musicians performing live for their peers in a relaxed, informal setting.  The event is based on a Canadian university social event in which acoustic musicians gather in campus coffee shops with their friends to listen to each other play music.  The previous Coffeehouses have also included photography and illustration competitions, furthering the aim of this event to give medical students the opportunity to share in the musical and artistic talents of their colleagues.

Hot beverages are served by baristas within the medical school cohort at no cost, making Coffeehouse a unique and extremely popular event on the UQMS social calendar. Entry is by donation at the door or by purchase of tickets online,, with Coffeehouse now serving as key fundraiser for the Ashintosh Foundation.

Trivia Night

Trivia night is another major feature on the social calendar and one of our rising stars, regularly selling out venues with fantastic reviews, with a possibility for holding multiple events in 2016. Its aim is to attract medical students who prefer a more cerebral night out than many others organized by the UQMS. Students get together in small groups to battle out who has the best general knowledge and to raise funds for charity.

Battle of the Bands

The Battle of the Bands is a relatively new fundraiser for the Ashintosh Foundation. Begun in 2011 as a bands night, medical students came together to play music slightly heavier than the more acoustic Coffeehouse.
