Ashintosh Foundation Community

The Ashintosh Foundation is the charity affiliate of the University of Queensland Medical Society (UQMS).  It is a not for profit organisation run entirely by medical students from the University of Queensland School of Medicine, that endeavours to pursue, promote and advance charitable purposes, both within and outside of Australia.  Its initiatives extend throughout multiple domains, particularly the arts, health and education.

The Teddy Bear Hospital is the main project of the Ashintosh Foundation with the primary aim of reducing morbidity from preventable illnesses.  The program visits Brisbane primary schools, with groups of UQ medical students playing "doctors" for the children's "sick" teddy bears to promote healthy eating, regular exercise, sun safety and oral hygiene.  It also encourages children to develop positive relationships with health professionals at the "visiting the Doctor" station led by Big Ted.  This fun and interactive initiative aims to encourage children to make healthy choices early in life.

The Ashintosh Coffeehouses are a key fundraiser for the Ashintosh Foundation.  Coffeehouse is an acoustic music evening which involves medical student musicians performing live for their peers in a relaxed, informal setting.  Hot beverages are served by baristas within the medical school cohort and funds raised support the Ashintosh Foundation and other designated charitable organizations.

The Ashintosh Foundation also promotes health and fitness within the medical student cohort, whilst raising funds for eligible charities.  Join the Ashintosh Cycle Team or sign-up to run the Bridge to Brisbane.

The Queensland Medical Orchestra (QMO) performs for the benefit of the public and in support of the Ashintosh Foundation.  Visit here for more information.
