About AMSA
The Australian Medical Students Association (AMSA) is the peak representative body for medical students in Australia. As a medical student and member of the UQMS, you automatically become an AMSA member. AMSA is comprised of a
confederation of all nineteen medical societies from around the country. Each
medical society has a seat on the AMSA Council. The AMSA Council as a
whole has the power to direct the AMSA Executive to carry out the
Council's will. The UQMS seat on AMSA Council is held by the Liaison Officer.
Council Meetings There are three meetings per year, when the AMSA Council meet face to face with the AMSA Executive. During this time pressing issues are discussed and policy is formulated. The AMSA Executive uses AMSA policy documents when responding to medical student related issues, in the media and to the Australian Medical Association. Activities and AMSA Events Other than policy formation on medical education and health in general, AMSA is involved in a number of events, including:
